REMOTE LEARNING METHODS: HOW TO ADAPT TO BETTER SUPPORT OUR STUDENTS?
For more than a year, the American Business School of Paris’s entire community has mobilized in the face of challenges related to the Covid-19 pandemic and its imposed restrictions. This community includes our students, both French and international, teachers, administrative staff, partner companies, and our Alumni. Since remote learning has been adopted as the norm, our community has openly adapted to make the most of this new method.
A school as international as the American Business School of Paris represents a unique environment for intercultural exchanges, professional interactions, international networking, etc. Promising and implementing all these added values through a remote framework represents a wonderful success story that everyone has worked hard to achieve.
MAINTAINING INTERCULTURALISM IN REMOTE LEARNING
Integrating remote education and learning with collaborative work carried out in small, multicultural groups, has succeeded in meeting our learners’ expectations. Choosing ABSParis means deciding to evolve in an international setting where a person can discover other cultures, approaches and strengthen their professional network. The remote learning system, despite a few technical hiccups now and then, respects our promise and intercultural educational offer.
REMOTE LEARNING AND PROFESSIONAL SUPPORT
Providing remote courses through platforms such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Google Meet, etc. is the first step in the remote learning system. In addition, and above all, we also need to provide remote support with periodic student meetings, specifically for those who are having trouble, and reassure them with a success-based education.
Furthermore, in addition to remote learning, we needed to work with our partner companies on remote case studies, remote corporate games, and particularly remote internships. During this period of remote working, remote internships are the perfect solution for our learners already prepared for this kind of autonomy and ready for a professional adventure in the Covid-19 era.
THE IMPORTANCE OF LISTENING
These remote learning systems would not be beneficial if we were not open to suggestions from our community, especially our students. The ready-made remote learning solution cannot only come from the administration. Back-and-forths between the administration, faculty, students, and partner companies must be continuous.
Listening to students as well as their requests, concerns, and proposals, while still complying with the French government’s decisions, has proven to be beneficial. Together, we will surmount the difficulties related to the pandemic and succeed in exiting this crisis. Remote learning methods are an opportunity to strengthen our relationships with students and humbly remind us that we can learn more by listening to others.
